Secor artists to host holiday event

The Secor artists will host the third annual 'Tis the Secor celebration and art sale from 6 p.m. to midnight Dec. 4. Featured will be work by the Toledo Sculpture Guild in the first-floor Secor Gallery, art by the University of Toledo sculpture department in the sixth-floor gallery, and many open studios on floors four through seven. Paintings of local winter scenes are being sought for front-page publication in The Blade on Christmas Day. Deadline is Dec. 18. Send images to dmurray@theblade.com. Information: 419-724-6069.

Scrap4Art will hold a retro card workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 4 at which an instructor will show how to transform recycled cards and ephemera into artistic holiday cards. Fee: $10. The shop also will hold a Folk Arts Junior Girl Scout workshop ($10 fee), that will complete requirements for a badge, from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 5. The nonprofit shop, 1501 Adams St., collects and distributes usable art supplies. Information: 419-720-2978.

From Superman to Xerxes: Comic Books in Film and Television is the topic for Nick Catalano's talk at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Toledo Museum of Art's Little Theater.

Also at the museum, the TMA Student Exhibition will display hundreds of pieces produced in 2009 classes, beginning Dec. 4 in the Community Gallery.

A two-block section of St. Clair Street between Monroe and Lafayette streets, will be the site of an old-fashioned Holiday Bazaar with dozens of participating vendors, studios, and shops from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 4 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 5. Sport mascots Muddy and Spike will be available for photos with children Dec. 5 in the Mud Hens' Swamp Shop. Open galleries will be MMK, 20 North, Sur St. Clair, Jack Wilson Studio, the Little Gallery, Paul Sullivan's offices, Ahava Spa, and Downtown Latte, Information: 419-241-7100.

Pop Up Art Gallery will open with a 5 to 8 p.m. reception Dec. 3 in the Davis Building, 135 Michigan St. Local artists will sell ceramics, fiber art, glass, and jewelry through Dec. 24. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Information: 419-260-6404.

Fenwick Gallery of Fine Art, 7638 West Central Ave., will feature work by Harold Roe, Carol Pletz, Carol Lee Rice, and Paul Abowd through December. Information: 419-843-2887.

The Silver Lining Gallery, selling the crafts of 80 local artists, will have an open house 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 5. The gallery is at 122 Mechanic St. in Waterville.

Mr. Atomic's studio will host an open house noon to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6 at Common Space, 1700 North Reynolds Rd., Room 204. Information: 419-367-7864.

Porcelain night lights will be sold at the Blair Museum of Lithophanes during Heralding the Holidays, Dec. 4 to 6, at Toledo Botanical Garden. Some are colorful oak, maple, and ginko leaves by Curtis Benzle. Also sold will be Victorian-style night lights with Raphael's cherubs from the Porcelain Garden in California.
