MONROE - Two teenagers entered pleas yesterday to charges in connection with dumping the body of their friend Joshua Miracle, 16, at Ash Park in Carleton, Mich.
Justin Mell, 17, of Carleton and Frank Bolinsky II, 19, of Lincoln Park, Mich., each pleaded no contest in Monroe County District Court to moving a body without medical examiner's permission. The offense is a misdemeanor.
The pair were arrested Nov. 7 after they were stopped in a car that matched the description of one seen by a witness at the park, where Joshua's body was found on a bench.
According to sheriff's office reports, young Mell and Mr. Bolinsky confessed to investigators that they had dumped the body in the park after finding the teenager dead in Mr. Bolinsky's car.
The two said Joshua had ingested morphine pills and other prescription drugs that he had bought the night before in the Southgate, Mich., area.
They also told investigators they had last seen Joshua alive in the car hours earlier when they went into young Mell's home.Judge Mark Braunlich scheduled sentencing for Jan. 19. The defendants face a maximum punishment of one year in prison.
Assistant Prosecutor Jack Simms said the two would not face additional charges in Monroe County for removing Joshua's body from the vehicle after finding him dead.
"We believe we have addressed the issues we had before us," he said.
Joshua was a sophomore at Downriver High School in Gibraltar, Mich. He had been living with his grandfather in Carle-
ton for about three months.
