Williams County police dog to return to duty after surgery
BRYAN — After undergoing emergency surgery, a police dog working for the Williams County Sheriff’s Office should be back on duty in a few weeks.
Sheriff Kevin Beck said K-9 Hammer, an 8-year-old Dutch Shepherd, was suffering from an enlargement of the stomach known as gastric dilation volvulus when his handler, Deputy Mick Frisbie, noticed the bloating and got the dog to Dr. Luc Hesselschwardt at the Bryan Area Animal Hospital.
Dr. Hesselschwardt said the condition is not only painful but can be life-threatening.
