A man was shot outside a North Toledo bar by another man early Friday after a fight broke out over a cell phone, authorities said.
Lemuel Jefferson, 22, whose Toledo address was being withheld, was admitted to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the back, Toledo police said. A hospital spokesman said she had no information about a person by that name.
The shooting occurred about 2:15 a.m. at the Palms Bar and Grill, the former Hot Shotz Night Club, at 3833 North Detroit Ave. near Tudor Street, police said.
The shooting victim was in the bar with Lee Neals McIntosh, 32, when a group of men accused them of stealing a cell phone. A fight broke out and when the bouncers pushed the group outside, one of the men pulled out a small-caliber handgun and fired three rounds, one of which hit the victim, officers said.
The victim's companion then took him to Mercy St. Vincent, pushed a couple of nurses there, and was Tasered by hospital security guards. He was later arrested, charged with misdemeanor offenses of assault and menacing, and booked into the Lucas County jail pending arraignment at Toledo Municipal Court on Monday.
