Florida oranges on ice

Icicles cling to oranges in a small grove just after sunrise Wednesday in Seffner, Fla.

As temperatures in central Florida dipped into the 20s overnight, farmers sprayed water on their crops to form a layer of ice to help keep them around 32 degrees, protecting them from damage.

Florida Citrus Mutual reported that some farmers experienced damage in low-lying areas, but the cold didn’t last long enough for significant damage.
