Orbis Corp. confirms 105 layoffs in Perrysburg

Orbis Corp. filed a mass-layoff notice Thursday confirming a decision announced in June to close its auto parts packaging plant in Perrysburg by year’s end.

Wisconsin-based Orbis, which took over the former Hinkle Manufacturing Inc. factory in May, said the closing will affect 105 employees, most of whom are union members represented by the United Auto Workers.

Orbis said in May right after the purchase of Hinkle that the Perrysburg plant, located at 348 Fifth St., was a strong complement to its other business and product line, but a month later said that upon review it had decided to move production to other Orbis facilities.

The notice to the state said employee layoffs would begin Oct. 1 and continue through Dec. 31, with the bulk of the layoffs occurring the first two weeks of November.
