'75 Waite grad to become 1-star Army general

An East Toledo native and 1975 Waite High School graduate has been confirmed as promotable to one-star general.

Col. Dennis D. Doyle, a U.S. Army Medical Services officer who has been in the service nearly 30 years, was nominated for promotion to brigadier general by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, but is to be officially promoted later.

"I view it as a collective honor for all of the soldiers and leaders that I've been able to serve with and work alongside," Colonel Doyle said in a statement. "This is a result of their hard work, and I'm being recognized with this nomination."

He departs May 10 as commander of the 30th Medical Command headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany, to lead the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso.

He has been deployed several times, including the Persian Gulf War, Iraq War, and mostly recently in support of the War in Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010. He led Task Force 30th Medical Command in Afghanistan.

Colonel Doyle, who has a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Toledo, completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and went to Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1982.

The son and Harry and Marilyn Doyle of Toledo, he is married to the former Lisa Goldman of Bowling Green. Their son, Devin, is a videographer in Los Angeles.
