The British won't be invading Fort Meigs this weekend - but their cars will. "The British Return to Fort Meigs," the 6th annual British car show, sponsored by the Lake Erie British Car Club, takes place at the state memorial Sunday. The five-hour event starts at 10 a.m.
Past shows have featured refurbished and restored Aston Martins, Triumphs, Austin-Healeys, Mini Coopers, MGs, Morgans, Jaguars, and Nash Metropolitans, to name a few.
The car show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Meigs State Memorial, on State Rt. 65 in Perrysburg.
Stan Fingerhut, president of the Lake Erie club, said about 85 car owners have pre-registered to showcase their British automobiles, but on-site registrations are also welcome. Spectator admission is free, but $12 is required to enter a car in the show.
"We're open to all British cars, and British motorcycles are also welcome," said Fingerhut, whose first British car was a 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 purchased for a mere $150 in 1968.
Fingerhut said he expects about 1,000 people at the show. Last year's event drew 185 car entrants. Awards will be given by popular vote, and other highlights include food, refreshments, and a raffle.
