This weekend's Plane Fun 2006 air show at Metcalf Field will feature performances by the Red Baron Pizza Squadron, free flights for children, and a number of activities.
The Red Baron aerobatic team has been together since 1979 doing a number of in-flight stunts in biplanes. Its show harks back to days when pilots barnstormed through areas, setting speed records and doing daring stunts.
A number of other pilots will be at the event, and members of the public who attend the show can pay for airplane and helicopter rides or go up in a tethered hot air balloon.
Metcalf Field is at State Rt. 795 and Lemoyne Road in Wood County's Lake Township.
Gates open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Performance times are from noon to 2 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. Gates close at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Free flights for children ages 8 to 17 will be given from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. both days, with registration ending at 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5; free for children 8 and under.
