
A portrait of Elijah E. Myers hangs in the Michigan Senate meeting room bearing his name in the state Capitol, in Lansing, Mich. Myers was the architect for the Michigan Capitol building, as well as those of Texas and Colorado. The portrait was painted by Joseph DuMont in 1995 based on photographs.

Ebenezer O. Grosvenor was a politician who served in the Michigan Senate, one term as the Lieutenant Governor of Michigan, and two terms as the State Treasurer. He arrived in Jonesville in 1840, establishing a store and a bank in the town. Grosvenor had this house constructed in 1874 from plans drawn by Elijah E. Myers.

The Illinois Asylum for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb in Jacksonville, Illinois was established by an act of the Legislature on Feb 23 1839.All educatable deaf and dumb individuals in the state were admitted without charge. The institution was privately governed by a twenty-member board of directors until the state assumed full control in 1849. At that time the asylum became the Illinois Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb.

The Stockbridge Town Hall was constructed by Mitter & Heuderlong in 1892. This stately Romanesque structure was built to house local township offices and a community center. In addition to local township business, the hall has also been the setting for lectures, musicals and numerous social gatherings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic places in 1980. A federal grant and local taxes provided the money for the massive restoration that was completed in 1982.

Austin State Hospital, built in 1857 and located in Austin, Texas. Formerly known as the State Lunatic Asylum, it is the oldest psychiatric hospital in the state of Texas, operated by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Established by the Legislature in 1856, it began operating in 1861.
