UT Women in Science Day

Edith Kippenham, associate lecturer with the Department of Chemistry, lights a methane bubble in the hand of Mary Kate Hafemann, a chemistry teacher at Ottawa Hills High School. The chemistry demonstration showed local high school girls how Hafemann's hand, soaked in soap and water, was unharmed as the methane gas encased in the bubbles quickly burned out.
