ABOUT THE TEAM:

Coach: Beau Carmon, first year

Last season: 1-9, 0-7 Sandusky Bay Conference

Returning letter winners: 5

Returning starters: Offense 2, defense 3

Schemes: Spread/4-2

Top players: Senior Corey Beal, 6-0, 180, WR-CB. Juniors Tristan Mallory, 6-0, 220, RB-LB; Keegan Lowe, 5-10, 180, RB-LB; Jesse Escobedo, 5-8, 135, WR-S; Andrew Cline, 6-1, 215, OL-DL. Sophomores Nathan Stubblefield, 5-11, 165, WR-CB; Brandon Moore, 5-10, 165, QB-CB. Freshman Emerson Lowe, 5-9, 185, RB-LB.

Outlook: The Redskins return only five letter winners and will start six sophomores and four juniors on offense while fielding similar youth on defense.

But Port Clinton is eager to begin a new era under Carmon, who spent 2009-11 as head coach at Fostoria. Though the Redskins were picked to finish last in the SBC, their first-year coach believes the program is headed in the right direction.

"We need to start competing in every SBC game," Carmon said. "It doesn’t matter if it’s Clyde or Perkins. You look at those teams, and what do they have that we don't. I think toughness.

"So we're evaluating toughness. That’s physically and mentally, and we’re throwing a lot at them. We don't want to be the doormat of the SBC."
