Guns at the ready, Toledo police SWAT team members enter the former United Way headquarters in downtown Toledo. ‘We picked this building [for training] because they are tearing it down next month,' said Lt. Dan Schultz, SWAT team commander.
‘In this building, with its unique design, we get to train in a bunch of different scenarios, such as room entries, stairway advances, and looking for a possibly barricaded armed suspect.' The exercise was a regularly scheduled event for the team's 23 members, who usually train in vacant buildings . United Way spokesman Kelli Kreps said the agency allowed the SWAT team to use the facility yesterday as it undergoes asbestos abatement before demolition.
