BRYAN -- The Liberty Center and Wauseon girls track teams engaged in a tug-of-war to decide the Northwest Ohio Athletic League meet championship Friday night.
In the end, the Tigers outlasted the Indians, winning the 1600 relay - the final event of the night. Liberty Center placed first with 149 points, followed by Wauseon's 148, Archbold 109, Evergreen 68, Bryan 64, Delta 45, Montpelier 36, Patrick Henry 27, and Swanton 14.
In the NWOAL boys competition, Archbold dominated with 166 points, followed by Bryan with 98, Patrick Henry 80, Wauseon 77, Swanton 72, Evergreen 50, Montpelier 44, Delta 40, and Liberty Center 33.
Liberty Center girls won the 400 relay (52.77); Evergreen the 800 relay (1:49.0). Archbold took first in the 1600 relay (4:12.78).
Allison Righi of Liberty Center cleared 5-2 to win the high jump; Bryan's Alyssa McBride won the pole vault (12-6). Archbold's Kinsey Smith won the long jump with an effort of 16-1.50.
Liberty Center's Ali Busick won the shot put (35-11.50); Delta's Alexa Salsbury won the discus event (114-9).
Wauseon's Kendall Weber won the 100 hurdles (15.74) and the Indians' 3200 relay took first (9:55.79).
Wauseon's Tessa Herring won the 800 (2:22.01) while Taylor Vernot pulled off an impressive double by taking first in the 1600 (5:13.30) and 3200 (11:34.23).
Evergreen's Carly Truckor swept the 100 (12.91) and 200 (26.37) while also dominating the 300 hurdles (47.75).
In the boys competition, Archbold sprinter Levi Wyse streaked to victory in the 100 (11.38) and finished second in the 200 behind Evergreen's Matt Taylor, who was timed at 22.90.
Archbold's Hayden Stamm ran first in the 400 (50.50) and Danny Young won the 300 hurdles (39.12).
Bryan's Scott Whisler won the 800 (1:56.93), and Brandon Poncsak raced to a league title by winning the 110 hurdles (14.88). Peter Thongpasouk earned a league title in the long jump (19-9.50) for Bryan.
Swanton's Ric Roe won the 1600 (4:27.52) and the 3200 (9:43.01).
Archbold ran strong in the relays, winning the 400 (44.57), 1600 (3:24.00), and 3200 (8:24.98). Dean Herrett delivered for the Blue Streaks: He won the pole vault (13-6).
Montpelier claimed victory for the 800 relay (1:33.22). Patrick Henry's Marcus Myers recorded a throw of 146-1 to finish first in the discus, and Ryan Koppenhofer cleared six feet to win the high jump title.
Evergreen's Garrett Loeffler went 50-11.50 to become the shot put champion.
