County given $999,200 for rail-trail repairs

The Lucas County Engineer's Office has received $999,200 in federal funds from the Ohio Department of Transportation toward the cost of upgrading rail-trails in Lucas County.

The money will pay for resurfacing the University Parks Trail between King and Secor roads and resealing parts of the north and south forks of the Wabash Cannonball Trail.

Lucas County Engineer Keith Earley said the entire 8.7-mile length of the University Parks Trail will be resurfaced for the first time since it was built in the mid-1990s.

A portion of the north fork of the Wabash Cannonball Trail near the Blystone subdivision in Monclova Township will be resurfaced, and the rest of the north and south forks of the trail will be resealed.

Mr. Earley said the federal funds pay for 80 percent of the cost of the project, with local funds paying the rest.
