The most seriously injured of three railroad workers struck Oct. 28 by a car driven into a work area at a railroad crossing near Bradner, Ohio, has died.

Paul Castle, 34, of Paintsville, Ky., had been in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center before his death Wednesday night.

Cody Rickard, 26, of Woodville, was indicted last week on two counts each of aggravated vehicular assault, a fourth-degree felony, and felonious assault, a second-degree felony.

Wood County Prosecutor Paul Dobson said today the case will be re-evaluated in light of Mr. Castle's death, and he anticipates filing "more substantial charges."

Mr. Rickard remained held without bond today in the Wood County jail pending arraignment Friday on the existing indictment.

Sheriff's deputies say Mr. Rickard drove the car that evaded two sets of barricades blocking Bradner Road just south of that Wood County village about 11:20 a.m. and struck Mr. Castle and two other CSX workers who were repairing the crossing. It also struck a utility pole and a railroad maintenance truck.

Luis Knott III, 58, of Banner, Ky., and Jim Conley, 58, of Findlay also were injured in the crash. They and Mr. Rickard were all treated at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green.
