Pemberville man in serious condition after accidental shooting

A 23-year-old Pemberville man who accidentally was shot in the chest by a friend Thursday night remains in serious condition.

Steven Kurtz, 19000 block of Stony Ridge Road in Pemberville, was shot by a 25-year-old Holland man who was cleaning his 9 mm Sig Sauer pistol when the gun fired. The incident occurred at the home of Todd Ogle, 5300 block of Silvertown Drive in Sylvania.

Sylvania Police Chief William Rhodus said no arrests have been made because the shooting was an accident. There were at least two witnesses, including Mr. Ogle and Mr. Kurtz, the chief said.

Mr. Kurtz was brought to ProMedica Toledo Hospital shortly after being shot about 11:20 p.m. Thursday.

A ProMedica spokesman said Mr. Kurtz was in serious condition late Friday.
