A Lebanon, Ohio, man in Toledo to visit college friends was found dead Saturday in a shallow creek near North Byrne Road and Dorr Street.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, said Dr. Diane Barnett, a Lucas County deputy coroner.
The man was identified as Eric Schneider, 22, whose body was face up and did not appear submerged, Dr. Barnett said. He was fully clothed but without a coat.
It was not yet known whether he drowned or suffered hypothermia, the deputy coroner said.
Mr. Schneider arrived Friday night to visit friends at an apartment in the 1100 block of North Byrne, which is near the University of Toledo campus, Dr. Barnett said. About 1 a.m. Saturday, he told friends at the get-together that he was going to walk to a bar. About 10 a.m., some of the people who’d been at the apartment saw him in the creek as they were walking back to their own apartments.
Tracks in the snow indicate he likely was trying to cross the creek as he walked back to the apartment, Dr. Barnett said.
