Toledo Fire and Rescue and other first responders were called at about 7 p.m. to investigate a body on the iced over Maumee River between the Craig Memorial Bridge and the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway.

The fully clothed male body lay face up on the ice almost directly below the edge of the skyway’s southbound roadway, just downriver from downtown Toledo. A two-man water rescue crew retrieved the body with a raft at about 7:45 p.m.

Police and fire vehicles are on the Craig bridge and other first responders gathered on the shore nearby.

Authorities learned of the body on the river from a 14-year-old boy walking across the bridge, according to police at the scene.
