Jim Ferris, a professor and chair of disability studies at the University of Toledo, has become the second person to be Lucas County’s poet laureate.

A poet and performance artist, Mr. Ferris was appointed by the county commissioners during Tuesday's meeting.

Mr. Ferris replaced Joel Lipman, who was named poet laureate in 2007. Mr. Lipman, a UT English and art professor, recently retired.

Mr. Ferris has a doctorate in performance studies and has performed across the United States, Canada, and Great Britain, according to the university website.
