FOSTORIA — A freight train derailed in Fostoria early today, closing a street, authorities said.
There were no injuries and no hazardous materials were involved, according to the Fostoria fire department.
A fire dispatcher said 11 cars on a CSX Transportation Corp. freight train derailed about 6:30 a.m. near the Columbus Avenue railroad crossing near Fostoria Rail Park. The cars were empty, he said.
Columbus is closed because of the derailment, Fostoria police said.
The northbound train was traveling from Willard, Ohio to a CSX yard in Lake Township, according to CSX. The train had 232 cars, of which 157 were empty and 75 were loaded with freight such as automotive parts, agricultural products and consumer goods. The train had five locomotives.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Fostoria, which straddles Hancock, Seneca, and Wood counties, is about 35 miles southeast of Toledo.
