A 61-year-old man was pronounced dead after he was pulled from a house fire in Toledo on Friday, authorities said.
Fire crews arrived about 1:10 p.m. and saw flames coming from the back of a single-story brick house at 2340 Ward St., in South Toledo, Fire Department spokesman Pvt. Sterling Rahe said. He said firefighters found the man in the front part of the house.
The spokesman said a 61-year-old man was taken from the scene of the fire to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital.
Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey said the man was pronounced dead upon arrival at UTMC. She said his identity has been withheld because family members were not yet notified. An autopsy would be performed Monday, Dr. Pandey said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within about 10 minutes of their arrival, Private Rahe said. The Lucas County Auditor’s web site lists the house owner as Ronald K. Ford. The house was built in 1954.
The cause of fire was under investigation. The damage estimate was not available.
