The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority’s governing board has green-lighted that agency’s takeover of transit services at the University of Toledo.
Under terms approved Thursday by the TARTA board of trustees, the university will pay the transit authority $987,076.20 per year for the first three years of a 10-year contract, while the price for the following years will be adjusted for inflation.
TARTA will continue operating all existing on-campus routes, while UT students, staff, and faculty will gain free access to the entire TARTA network starting June 25.
James Gee, the transit authority’s general manager, said TARTA already has formally hired some of the students who drove campus buses for the university. UT students will continue driving the on-campus routes, he said.
