The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a fire that blazed through a vacant restaurant early Tuesday in downtown Napoleon.
A fire at the Brick N’ Brew Pub was reported at just after midnight to Napoleon Fire and Rescue, said Fire Chief Clayton O’Brien. The first floor collapsed into the basement, but no injuries were reported, he said. Crews were also able to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings.

“It took quite a while to contain [the fire],” he said.
Firefighters from his department stayed at the scene to support the fire marshal’s investigation, Chief O’Brien said. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Al Blackwood, owner of the Brick N’ Brew, was at the scene Tuesday morning.
“It’s just too much to comprehend,” he said.
Joel Miller, executive director of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, whose office is on the same block as the Brick N’ Brew, was notified of the fire Tuesday morning and had been keeping in contact with the fire crews about their progress and the status of the building. It was fortunate, he said, that his office was spared from the fire.
“That’s the first fear, is that it’ll spread to other buildings,” he said.
Mr. Miller said the building was constructed in the 1870s and is part of Napoleon’s historic district. Since its construction, the building has been a clothing store, department store, carpet and floor-covering shop, and finally a restaurant.
It’s unknown whether building will have to be torn down.
“To lose a historic building is tough for a district,” Mr. Miller said. “We’re really hoping that the building can be saved.”
