They also were told by neighbors that a person might be trapped on the second floor, according to a Toledo Fire & Rescue Department statement.

Pvt. Sterling Rahe, the fire department’s spokesman, said responding crews reported not hearing any smoke detectors when they entered the building, but it would take an investigation to determine if working detectors had been disabled by the fire. The department urged Toledo residents to check smoke detectors for proper function.
