Two dogs die in Springfield Township house fire

Two dogs died in a house fire early Sunday morning on South McCord Road in Springfield Township.

The fire was reported at 1:28 a.m. in the 700 block of South McCord, said Springfield Township Fire Battalion Chief Andrew Sauder. Firefighters fought the blaze from the outside first, and then went into the home, he said.

“It was a well-involved house fire initially,” Chief Sauder said. “Nobody was home at the time.”

Firefighters found the dogs when they went inside, he said. Crews were on scene for about two hours.

Both Monclova Township and Sylvania Township fire departments responded in aid, Battalion Chief Sauder said.
