MONROE — A 46-year-old man died in a Monroe house fire on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Firefighters found the unresponsive man, Joseph Boylan, when they entered the burning home in the 800 block of Donnalee Drive after 1:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Family members were notified as they arrived to the house, police said.
Responding fire and police agencies were initially told there might be animals in the home, and that a passerby had seen smoke coming from the roof and had tried knocking, but received no answer, police said.
Firefighters said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The Monroe Public Safety Department asked anyone with information to call 734-243-7509 or 734-243-7519.
