South Toledo house fire ruled accidental, no injuries reported

The fire that damaged a house in South Toledo today has been ruled accidental, authorities said.

Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said an occupant at 219 Mitchell St. reported seeing sparks coming out of an electrical outlet while trying to plug in a space heater.

The American Red Cross was called to assist two adult occupants, who had escaped unhurt by the time fire crews arrived, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said. There were no injuries reported, the Toledo fire department reported.

Fire crews arrived at the residence near the Anthony Wayne Trail, about 8:55 a.m., attacked the flames, and brought them under control by 9:13 a.m., a fire dispatcher said.

The Lucas County official Web site lists D&M Real Estate Development LLC as the owner of the one-story, wood frame house. It was built in 1923.

Lieutenant Hertzfeld said damage from the fire was about $15,000.
