BOWLING GREEN — The Lake Superior State Lakers tallied one goal each in the first two periods, then exploded for three third-period goals Friday in turning back the Bowling Green State University ice hockey team 5-0 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Slater Family Ice Arena.
The Falcons (7-3-2, 2-2-1-1 WCHA), ranked No. 10 in the latest USCHO.com Division I poll, are 1-2-1 in their past four games after starting the season 6-1-1, which included a victory against then top-ranked Ohio State.
Lukas Kaeble, Will Reidell, and Collin Saccoman all had a goal and an assist for Lake Superior State (6-2-1, 3-1-1-0). The Lakers also got goals from Ashton Carter and Anthony Nellis.
Lake Superior State got on the board at the 15:29 mark of the first, when Carter tallied his first goal of the year. Reidell made it 2-0 Lakers with 14:55 remaining in the second.
Then Kaelble got the Lakers going in the third when he converted on the power play at the 5:25 mark. Nellis scored his seventh of the season, also on the power play, with 9:59 to go. Saccoman finished the scoring at the 13:12 mark.
Nick Kossoff improved to 4-0-1 on the season for Lake Superior State, as he stopped 30 shots. Ryan Bednard fell to 7-2-1 as he made 12 saves for Bowling Green.
The two teams will play against at 7:07 p.m. Saturday.
