Well, what do you know about this — Bowling Green will play a role in determining the MAC East title after all.
The Falcons (3-8) host Buffalo on Friday, and the Bulls are coming off a blowout loss at Ohio University, which dropped them from the sole perch in the standings. Now, the Bulls (9-2) are facing a must-win situation at Doyt Perry Stadium.
BG is coming in on a two-game winning streak — its first run of consecutive wins since the end of the 2016 season — and in a prime spot to play the spoiler.

Here’s a closer look at the Falcons last game of the 2018 season.
SERIES: The Falcons hold an 11-4 edge in the series, including a 4-2 record vs. Buffalo at Doyt Perry Stadium. Before last year’s Buffalo win, the Falcons had won six straight in the series.
LAST MEETING: The quarterbacks put on a clinic in Buffalo’s 38-28 win last year. As the two offenses combined for 976 yards, UB’s Tyree Jackson threw for 406 yards and three scores, while BG’s Jarret Doege went for 294 yards and three TDs. Scott Miller had 10 catches for the Falcons, totaling 108 yards and a score. UB linebacker Khalil Hodge had 10 tackles as the Bulls broke a six-game winning streak for BG in the series.

LAST WEEK: The Falcons won their second straight game, beating Akron 21-6 on the strength of their running game. Andrew Clair posted his third 100-yard game of the season, rushing for 112 yards on 12 carries as BG outgained Akron 221-79 on the ground. Scott Miller caught six passes for 100 yards, his fifth game of at least 100 receiving yards this season.
Buffalo saw a five-game winning streak snapped in humbling fashion as Ohio University shook down a 52-17 win. The Bobcats rushed for 437 yards and four scores while totaling 646 yards. The Bulls didn’t help themselves with five turnovers. Khalil Hodge and Brandon Williams each had 11 tackles, and Hodge also intercepted a pass.
BULLS TO WATCH: Buffalo quarterback Tyree Jackson is the Mid-American Conference’s second leading passer with 2,454 yards and 24 touchdowns. Receivers Anthony Johnson and K.J. Osborn have combined to catch 86 passes for 1,555 yards and 19 TDs. Jaret Patterson leads Buffalo’s ground game with 786 yards and 10 scores.
Khalil Hodge is second in the MAC with 122 tackles, while Cameron Lewis (3), Brandon Williams (3) and Aapri Washington (2) are all among the league leaders in interceptions.
FALCONS TO WATCH: Quarterback Jarret Doege leads the MAC with 2,576 yards and 26 TDs, while Scott Miller is the conference top pass catcher at 67 receptions for 1,033 yards and seven TDs.

Brandon Harris is fourth in the MAC with 112 tackles, and Jerry McBride is seventh (97 tackles).
PUTTING IT TOGETHER: The Falcons have won two straight games, and the running attack has been a big reason why. Andrew Clair has totaled 194 yards while averaging 8.1 yards per rush during wins over Akron and Central Michigan. The Falcons have rushed for 399 yards and two scores in those wins. On the flip side, the Falcons defense has allowed 151 rushing yards and one score in the streak.
TWO UNIT STRONG: The Bulls are among the league leaders in the four overarching statistics: scoring offense (3rd, 34.5 points per game), total offense (4th, 413.6 yards per game), scoring defense (25.2 ppg), and total defense (357.1 ypg). They’re second with 12 interceptions and third with 28 sacks.
WATCH: Jarret Doege after BG beat Akron for second straight win
RECORD WATCH: BG quarterback Jarret Doege is in prime position to etch his name in the record books. Through the Akron game, Doege has completed 354-of-560 passes for 3,957 yards and 38 touchdowns. By the end of his junior season, Doege could find himself in the top-10 for passing attempts, completions, and yards, and with one more TD, he’ll be tied for eighth in career TD passes.
