BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green has a date at the Big House.
The Falcons announced Friday they have agreed to a contract with Michigan for a 2023 game at Michigan Stadium. The contract calls for Bowling Green and Michigan to play Sept. 16 of that year, the third week of the season.
According to the contract, Michigan will pay Bowling Green a $1.5 million guarantee for the game. The agreement calls for the payment to be made in two installments.
The new Bowling Green coaching staff has many ties to Michigan. Head coach Scot Loeffler and receivers coach Erik Campbell are Michigan graduates who later became Wolverines assistant coaches, and offensive coordinator Terry Malone spent nine years as a Michigan assistant coach.
BG’s new strength coach, Kevin Tolbert, most recently spent three years at Michigan.
The Falcons’ four nonconference games each season are set through 2021. BG needs two additional nonconference games in 2022 and one more to fill out the schedule in 2023.
Bowling Green has three nonconference road games scheduled for 2023; the others are at Liberty and Louisiana Tech. If the Mid-American Conference schedule format stays the same, Bowling Green would play no more than five games at Doyt Perry Stadium that season.
The Falcons have road games against a number of Power Five opponents in the next few years. In 2019, the Falcons will play Kansas State and Notre Dame; Ohio State and Illinois in 2020; and at Tennessee and Minnesota in 2021.
