BG hockey downs Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Three players scored goals Friday as the Bowling Green State University ice hockey team beat Bemidji State 3-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play at the Sanford Center.

The Falcons (20-8-4, 15-7-3-2 WCHA), who are ranked No. 15 in this week’s USCHO.com Division I poll and No. 16 in the Pairwise rankings, got goals from Max Johnson, Will Cullen, and Stephen Baylis.

The Beavers (15-13-5, 13-9-3-2) got a goal from Alex Ierullo.

Ryan Bednard finished with 20 saves to improve to 15-5-3 for Bowling Green. Zach Driscoll stopped 19 shots in falling to 10-7-3 for Bemidji State.

BG hockey pulls off series sweep vs. Bemidji

Johnson’s 14th goal of the season came just 26 seconds into the game and gave the Falcons momentum immediately.

BG increased its lead to 2-0 at the 2:27 mark of the second on Cullen’s fourth of the season.

Ierullo pulled the Beavers within one with 17:14 left in regulation, but Baylis converted with 1:50 to go.

The two teams will meet again in the series finale at 8:07 p.m. Saturday. The Falcons will try to get their first league sweep since Dec. 14-15 at home against Minnesota State.
