JACKSONVILLE — Bowling Green’s Kaila Butler advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Thursday after finishing 12th in the hammer throw in East Regional at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida.
Butler, a sophomore from Port Coquitlam, B.C., had a throw of 201 feet, 7 inches on her first attempt in the event. She also had tosses of 197-6 and 193-8.
She will compete in the NCAA national meet, which will take place June 6-8 at the University of Texas in Austin.
Butler, who also will be competing at 2019 Summer Universiade for Team Canada from July 3-14 in Napoli, Italy, won the Mid-American Conference title May 9 with a throw of 209-9 at Ball State.
Bowling Green junior Chasatea Brown placed 43rd in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:02.4, failing to advance to the final round. She placed fourth at the MAC meet.
Toledo junior Petronela Simiuc placed 47th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:40.28. She took second at the MAC meet.
