Slow start hinders Bowling Green women at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio — A first-quarter run by Ohio University was too much for the visiting Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team to overcome Saturday, with the Falcons losing 79-69 at the Convocation Center.

Ohio (12-6, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) led 23-9 after the first quarter. The Bobcats led for all but eight seconds.

Bowling Green (8-11, 1-6) shot 46 percent (23 of 50) from the field for the game, but the Falcons went 3 of 10 in the first quarter. Ohio shot 49.2 percent (30 of 61) for the game.

Caterrion Thompson led the Falcons offensively with 20 points, tying her season high. She also was Bowling Green’s top rebounder, pulling down eight.

Madisen Parker added 15 points, all on 3-pointers. Mari Hill, Angela Perry, and Olivia Trice each scored nine points, while Kadie Hempfling had seven assists.

Cierra Hooks had 25 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds to pace Ohio. Erica Johnson added 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and six rebounds.

Bowling Green is home this Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against Miami.
