YPSILANTI, Mich. — The University of Toledo women's basketball team topped Eastern Michigan 70-67 in a dramatic double-overtime game on Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.
Toledo senior Kaayla McIntyre scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Rockets (17-9, 9-6 MAC). Nakiah Black added 13 points and Mariella Santucci chipped in with 11 points.
Jenna Annecchiarico paced Eastern Michigan (12-14, 5-10 MAC) with 19 points, Corrione Cardwell scored 14 points, and Danielle Minott added 13 points.
Each team appeared to walk away with a game winner at a different point in the game.
At the end of regulation, with the scored tied at 50, Eastern Michigan had the ball with five seconds remaining.
Off a side inbounds play, Cardwell pulled up and missed a jumper. Autumn Hudson got the rebound and made a putback. But the referees ruled that Hudson's shot came after the buzzer and a replay review verified that, sending the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, with the game tied at 59, McIntyre drove to her left and made a left-handed shot off the glass. After another review, however, the ball was still in her hand when the buzzer sounded, and the teams headed to a second overtime.
Toledo took a 68-65 lead in the second overtime when Santucci hit a jumper off a steal by Black. After a layup by Annecchiarico, Black sank two free throws with four seconds left to extend the lead to 70-67.
Minott missed a chance at a game-tying 3-pointer on Eastern Michigan's final possession, and Toledo walked away with a big road win.
