BOWLING GREEN — The struggles of the Bowling Green State University football team this season seem to be having an unintended consequence that threatens the long-term success of the program.
The Falcons’ 1-6 record may have made at least one member of the recruiting class of 2018 – considered one of the better groups in the Mid-American Conference – rethink his commitment to BG.
The Falcons lost a huge “get” Wednesday when running back Raveion Hargrove, a candidate for Mr. Ohio honors this season, announced he was reopening his recruiting. Bowling Green was one of the first schools to commit to the 5-6 Hargrove as a running back, while other schools talked about turning him into a slot receiver or situational back.
But the disappointing start to this season could have played a role in Hargrove reopening his recruiting. The losing record has to be frustrating to MIke Jinks and the BG coaching staff; the affect it may have had on this back only adds to the frustration.
It will be interesting to see which recruits confirm their commitment to Bowling Green despite the on-field struggles. Those who stay will likely play a large role in rebuilding the program.
