The father and son charged with abusing and molesting children in their North Toledo home will be in court Monday, Bibles in hand.
At a pretrial hearing today before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Linda Jennings, Timothy and Esten Ciboro asked whether they would be permitted to bring their Bible with them for trial on Monday.
Calling it “the only law book that truly matters,” Esten Ciboro, 28, said he would like to have his Bible with him as a reference.
“There's a great deal of strategy in Scripture and I use those strategies in everything I do,” Esten Ciboro told the court.
While the judge was initially hesitant about the matter, she ultimately agreed to let them bring the book and place in on the defense table where they will be seated together as co-defendants and co-counsel. Both have elected to represent themselves.
Esten and his father, 53, both of the 800 block of Noble Street are charged with multiple counts of rape, kidnapping, and endangering children for allegedly abusing children in their care, including a 13-year-old who said she was shackled in the basement at various times.
