ABOUT THE TEAM
Coach: Michael Daniels, fifth year
Last season: 3-7, 1-4 CL
Returning letter winners: 18
Returning starters: Offense 8, defense 7
Schemes: Spread/4-3
Top players: Seniors Trey Brown, 6-3, 190, QB; De'Angelo Gaston, 5-9, 200, LB. Juniors Dakarai Adams-Williams, 6-0, 225, DT; Day'Vontae Russell, 5-11, 180, RB.
Outlook: The Bulldogs are looking to move up in the City League standings with offensive and defensive startings units nearly intact from a season ago.
"The Scott Bulldogs are ready to go," Daniels said. "We will play every down like it's our last and give 110 percent effort all the time."
Brown is the offensive catalyst after serving as a double-threat quarterback a year ago, passing for 670 yards and rushing for another 340. He's one of the most talented signalcallers in the City League.
However, the Bulldogs will need more than just Brown carrying the load.
Russell showed flashes last season of being a threat. He rushed for a team-leading 482 yards on 64 carries and comes into the season a little bigger and stronger.
Gaston and Adams will anchor a 4-3 defense. Gaston tallied 87 tackles, including 13 for loss last season. Adams, who recorded 27 tackles (six for loss), provides good size in the trenches.
Getting off to a good start in nonleague play could go a long way in creating a winning mentality.
