One person has died after her West Toledo house caught fire today.

Smoke was showing when fire crews arrived at 5:40 p.m. at the residence at 1026 Moran Avenue, near Dorr Street.

The victim, a woman believed to be in her 50s and possibly disabled, was taken to University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Toledo fire Battalion Chief Jerry Takats said.

A pet dog also perished, the chief said. The woman’s identification is being withheld pending notification, the chief said.
