One Toledo police officer broke a bone in his leg and another was punched in the head while making separate arrests during the weekend, authorities said.
Bond was set Monday at $50,000 for Jesse Garcia following an incident with police early Saturday. Mr. Garcia, 30, of the 2500 block of Greenlawn Drive was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court on charges of felonious assault, assault on a police officer, and disorderly conduct.
Police said they tried to arrest Mr. Garcia about 4:30 a.m., but he ran from officers and entered 3506 W. Alexis Rd. Officers forced entry into the home.
Mr. Garcia wrestled with police, head-butting one officer in the face and grabbing Officer David Sprott by the leg. Officer Sprott was forced to the ground and suffered the broken bone, police said.
Mr. Garcia was released from the Lucas County jail on bond.
Police also arrested a Toledo woman about 10:30 a.m. Saturday after an officer sustained multiple injuries.
Therza Cox, 34, of 4300 block of Hill Avenue, reportedly made vulgar statements at a Marathon gas station, 4401 Hill Ave. Police said Ms. Cox then punched responding Officer Nicole Crissman near the left eye, grabbed her by the hair, and slammed her head against a glass door.
The officer sustained swelling, tenderness, and pain in her face. She also had swelling on the top of her head.
Ms. Cox has been charged with assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and obstructing official business. Ms. Cox was released on her own recognizance.
