An on-duty Toledo firefighter was transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation Saturday, according to the department’s spokesman.
The firefighter was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for evaluation after responding to a fire in the 2700 block of Gracewood Road, according to Toledo Fire Department spokesman Pvt. Sterling Rahe.
Private Rahe said the reason for transport was for medical evaluation, and not injury-related. He said the firefighter is stable.
Firefighters were called at roughly 3:30 p.m. to the West Toledo residence.
In a separate incident Friday, a mayday call was given after two firefighters caught fire while performing salvage and overhaul operations on a vacant house in the city’s center.
Crews responded to a blaze in the 3500 block of Monroe Street at about 1 a.m. Friday. During the overhaul process, embers fell and ignited material around the two firefighters, Private Rahe said.
The two were able to escape the building and were quickly extinguished, the spokesman said.
Both firefighters were evaluated at the scene, but they were not injured, Private Rahe said.
The firefighters’ gear helped protect them, he said.
The Monroe Street fire is under investigation.
