Norm Wamer, host of The Front Row with Norm Wamer on the all-sports station WLQR-FM 106.5 (The Ticket), and program director of WLQR-FM and WLQR-AM 1470, a mostly conservative talk-radio format, was let go Monday.
Andy Stuart, regional vice president and marketing manager for Cumulus Media Toledo, which owns both stations, declined to comment about Wamer's employment termination, but said to expect “announcements coming soon regarding the future of” WLQR-FM.
Wamer had been with Cumulus Media for a total of 18 years, including 14 years as program director of WLQR-AM.
Wamer, 50, who was not under contract with Cumulus Media, said Stuart “didn't give me any” reason for the termination.
Wamer said his broadcasting work with the Toledo Sports Network on CW13, a digital substation of WTVG-TV, Channel 13, will continue. He's also co-owner and co-promoter of Powerbomb Championship Wrestling, a weekly hourlong TV show featuring regional wrestlers that will air at 11 p.m. Saturdays on CW13 beginning Nov. 15.
“I’m looking forward to expanding my role with the Toledo Sports Network,” Wamer said, “and there’s some potentially wonderful opportunities coming up, so I’m not going anywhere.”
