He was just simply known as “the Worm,” when Toledo native Jason Gilmore had a happenstance meeting with Dennis Rodman in the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
A 13-year-old then and a Los Angeles independent filmmaker now, Gilmore documented the comical story in a the short film Me, My Mom and Dennis Rodman. The animated short is one of five finalists in NBC Sports CPTR’D feature film contest.

Gilmore narrates the film about meeting Rodman when he played for the Detroit Pistons, before he was “cross dressing ... and hanging out with international murderers, dictators.”
Surprisingly, Gilmore’s mother did not believe him when he pointed out the 6-feet, 7-inch NBA player was headed their way. But the story does have a twist once mom realizes “That’s Dennis Rodman!”
Viewers can vote for their favorite short film through March 9 at cptrdcontest.com. First-prize winners will be awarded $10,000 and the film will be viewed at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin.
