Local artists' work at Wolfe Gallery

Wolfe Gallery on the campus of Maumee Valley Country Day School, 1715 South Reynolds Rd., on Sunday will open an exhibit of paintings, drawings, and assemblages by Laura Gibson, Rebecca Kilpatrick, Danielle Rante, and Diana Attie. An opening reception is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit is to run through September. Gallery hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Information: 419-381-1313, ext. 3027.

Crystal Y. Coleman was recently appointed to the position of director of human resources at the Toledo Museum of Art. The Detroit native was most recently the director of human resources at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and he spent some five years with Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village managing staffing and training.

Lawrence Street Gallery, 6 North Saginaw, Pontiac, presents exhibitions by three member artists, Postcards by Laura Whitesides Host, and Eclectic by Kris Azelis Lamb and Saundra Weed, Aug. 28 through Sept. 28. The display will run simultaneously with downtown Pontiac's annual Arts, Beats, and Eats, a Labor Day weekend event (Friday-Monday) that features numerous bands, ethnic foods, and more than 200 artists. Gallery hours in September are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. Special hours during Arts, Beats, and Eats are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Washington Street Gallery, 215 East Washington St., Ann Arbor, is presenting through August guest artist series featuring the hand-painted wood and pewter boxes by Dee Ann Segula of Milford, Mich. Ann Arbor's Laura Strowe will present a group of her pastel paintings of local scenes. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit, is presenting the exhibition When Tradition Changed: Modernist Masterpieces at the DIA through summer 2003. Part of the modernism exhibit includes works by Edgar Degas, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Auguste Rodin.
