Angelwood Gallery celebrating 15th year

A retrospective of the pottery of Julie Beutler, owner of the Angelwood Gallery in Grand Rapids, opens Saturday with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and continues through August. Beutler opened the gallery/studio/teaching space 15 years ago when she was 21. In addition, she's the pottery director at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg. Also featured in the anniversary show will be works in many media by regional artists including Nancy Wikoff Leetch, Norma Thomas Herr, Homer J. Yarrito, Les Robertson, Michele MacFarlane, Craig Weatherby, Vanessa Snyder, Cheryl Takata, Darlene Krohn, Patricia Carroll, George Benson, Jennifer Frantz, Daphne Rains, Natalie Johnson, Toni Foltz, Jennifer Deca, Don Beutler, Jim Foltz, Scott Deca. Tom E. Walters, Paul Patton, Frank Hunsberger, and Marge Meserve.

Legal issues of the art and literary world will be discussed by Richard Martin, an attorney specializing in intellectual property, copyright, trademark, and patent law. Free and open to the public, the workshop will be 1 to 4 p.m. July 19 in the Way Public Library, 101 East Indiana Ave., Perrysburg. It's organized by Prizm Creative Community. Jeff Boyer, conservation technical assistant at the Toledo Museum of Art, will give a gallery talk about frames at 7 p.m. July 18 in Libbey Court.

A summer art show featuring local artists will be in the Bowling Green State University galleries tomorrow through July 27. The show was organized by students from two arts administration classes.

A plein-air paintout is scheduled Sunday in Lakeside, the chautauqua community 50 miles east of Toledo. Artists will be painting along the waterfront from 1 to 3 p.m., and the works will be for sale from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be an auction of Lakeside, a painting by Jim White, at 4 p.m. Admission to Lakeside is $4.25 for a three-hour pass. The event is sponsored by the Ohio Plein Air Society.

Black and white photographs of spiritual landmarks by Kenro Izu are in the Detroit Institute of Arts through Oct. 12. Renowned for his beautiful photographs of ancient temples in Cambodia, Japanese-born Izu aimed to convey the spiritual essence of sites in Asia, the Pacific Islands, the Middle East, and Europe.
