The Bowling Green State University School of Art is hosting its 70th Annual Undergraduate Art & Design Exhibition over the next two weeks.

The show opens both in-person and virtually on Sunday, and runs through Feb. 28 in the Dorothy Uber Bryan and Willard Wankelman Galleries.

The work was selected by art department faculty and awards will be handed out by University of Toledo art professors Eric Ziegler and Mysoon Rizk.

The show is free and coronavirus safety procedures will be followed. For those policies and gallery hours, or to view the show online, go to bgsu.edu/gallery.

■ In honor of Black History Month, local organizers are hosting “Art, Food and Soul: A Showcase of local Black Women Owned Businesses” from 4 to 7:30 p.m., Feb. 25, at Fowl & Fodder in downtown Toledo.

The event will showcase the work of Toledo artist Cydnee Moore and offer the opportunity for attendees to meet local Black female business owners. Appetizers, sweets, and a cash bar will also be offered by local black caterers.

There will be three “gallery-style” showings, limited to 25 people each to adhere to coronavirus safety guidelines: From 4 to 5 p.m., from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The show is organized by 419HerHub and supported by Foul & Fodder and Mansour Wealth Financial Management. For more information or to get tickets (required), go to bhmherhub.eventbrite.com.

■ The Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart, Ind., has opened an exhibition of work by Holocaust survivor and late, local artist Adam Grant.

The show A Holocaust Remembrance: Selected Works by Adam Grant will include two new works acquired by the museum from Grant’s estate: Seeds of Destruction and Seeds of Rebirth, both watercolor and ink on paper works that Grant created while being imprisoned in a camp to represent his experiences during the Holocaust. The late artist’s estate is represented by 20 North Gallery in Toledo.

Grant, a native of Poland, used his artistic skills to survive while imprisoned in death camps by the Nazis. After his liberation, he came to the United States and worked in commercial and fine art in the region and ultimately based in Toledo until his death in 1992. His wife Peggy, also an artist and arts advocate in northwest Ohio, bequeathed the pieces to the museum before her death in 2019.

The exhibition will also feature the new piece The Pale Horse, an oil painting on canvas by Grant that was donated to the museum by a friend from his collection.

The show runs through March 7. For more information on the show and the museum’s hours and safety protocols during the pandemic, go to midwestmuseum.org.

■ A local artist is offering up a Valentine’s Day event meant to brighten the day of those community members who find her art.

Kati Kleimola will host a #findartfriday project at noon, Friday, at 14 different Toledo Metroparks. The concept of the project is for community members to visit one of the parks and search for hidden pieces of Kleimola’s art to keep or share with loved ones.

There is one piece of artwork at each park that can be found within 5-10 minutes on a walking trail at the following parks: Bend View, Cannonball Prairie, Fallen Timbers Battlefield, Farnsworth, Glass City, Middlegrounds, Oak Openings, Pearson, Providence, Secor, Sidecut, Swan Creek, Toledo Botanical Garden, and Wildwood.

Kleimola’s #findartfriday project is ongoing, and upcoming dates can be found on the artist’s Instagram page.

Send news of art items at least two weeks in advance to rgedert@theblade.com or call 419-206-8558.
