Special events: Lights at the Toledo Zoo and fairgrounds brighten Thanksgiving

More than 1 million lights decorate the Toledo Zoo this holiday season as part of the Lights Before Christmas. Come explore the dazzling display at one of Toledo’s most beloved traditions. Hours for Lights Before Christmas run 3-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3-9 p.m. on Friday through Sunday, as well as 3 to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Admission is $29 for adults, $26 for children 2-11 and seniors over 60. For more information, visit toledozoo.org/events/lights.

■ Got this Friday off? Come down to the Village Idiot on Friday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m., order a cold one, and groove with the Daydrinkers, Toledo’s only daytime band. The Daydrinkers perform on the last Friday of the month, bringing a live music experience to those who don’t feel like staying up late to catch a band. The group is comprised of several Toledo music veterans and you never know who will sit in with the players. There’s no admission fee, but it’s advisable to arrive early (people usually start lining up around 10:30 a.m.) to get a good seat. The Village Idiot is located at 309 Conant St. in Maumee.

■ Whether one is rooting for the Wolverines or for the Buckeyes, it matters not at the first annual OSU/U of M rivalry tailgate party Rally of the Rivals, being held Friday from 11 a.m. to  5 p.m. at Fleetwood’s Tap Room, located at 28 N. St. Clair St. in Hensville. Sports fans of both teams are encouraged to come party together and enjoy a day of family-friendly activities, including live music, corn hole, inflatables, and more. Adults are $10, kids 6-13 are $5, and kids under 5 are admitted free. For more information, visit facebook.com/RallyoftheRivals.
