A.P. Bio, NBC's single-camera comedy about a brilliant but bitter high school teacher, Jack Griffin, who reluctantly returns to his hometown of Toledo for a job and for revenge, will feature The Blade prominently in an episode of its upcoming sophomore season.
In the episode, currently in production, Griffin (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Glenn Howerton) and the school's Principal Durbin (Patton Oswalt) are among “Toledo’s Top One Hundred Bachelors,” as selected by The Blade’s Peach Weekender.
While Griffin doesn't make the top 10, Durbin does, which leads to friction – the grist for much of the show's comedy – when The Blade sends a (fictional) reporter named Sarah Nesbitt to interview Griffin about his boss for a feature story.
The Blade and its Weekender section were also included in A.P. Bio's first season along with other Toledo-centric nods including a Toledo Walleye game as authentic ambiance to the show's locale.
A.P. Bio was created by Mike O’Brien, a 1995 graduate of St. John’s High School who grew up in the Toledo area and has family who still live in the city, who also serves as a writer and the showrunner on the series.
A midseason replacement in late winter favored more by critics than viewers through its 13-episode run, A.P. Bio was renewed for a second season in May. NBC has not announced a premiere date for the half-hour comedy's second season on WNWO-TV Channel 24.
