Longtime WTVG-TV, Channel 13, reporter and weekend anchor Bill Hormann announced his departure from the station during the 11 p.m. Sunday newscast.
The Emmy-winning broadcast journalist has been with Channel 13 for nearly 16 years. Before that, he worked for two years as an anchor at WTOL-TV, Channel 11.
“Bill won 30 journalism awards over his career, which include stints in Washington, D.C., and Toledo. His storytelling and professionalism during his time at WTVG is appreciated and will be remembered,” said Mel Watson, WTVG news director, in a statement to The Blade. “Until we find Bill’s replacement, 13abc reporters and anchors will be filling the gap.”
On Hormann’s Facebook page, a former co-worker, “Blizzard” Bill Spencer, applauded his decision to leave WTVG: “I worked with Bill H. for years, and he’s a GREAT award winning newsman. He gave up the lights of TV news to start a new chapter in his life. He has twin boys and won’t let these years slip by. He wants to be with his boys as they grow up and need DAD. takes guts to do this.”
Mr. Hormann replied to Spencer’s post that “He better says why I’m leaving 13abc than I ever could. He’s right, and that’s why I am not sad about the change. The boys need a dad more than I need a TV camera. It’s their time, now, not mine!”
Mr. Hormann is also a licensed real-estate agent with RE/MAX Preferred Associates and posts his home listings on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.
The station also recently lost reporter Amy Montgomery, Ms. Watson said, who joined TARTA as a public relations and social media manager. Ms. Montgomery joined Channel 13 in 2007, and has worked on the station’s production crew in engineering and on the assignment desk.
Ms. Watson said that WTVG has also hired a trio of newscast and content producers: Brooke Davis, a recent graduate of Ohio University and the Scripps College of Communication; Isabella Jansen, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati; and Katarina Bodziak of Ottawa Hills, a graduate of Miami University.
