WTOL 11 sports reporter Kristi Kopanis wasn’t feeling well. Throughout Thursday her leg was purple, swollen and rapidly losing feeling. She finally decided to check into urgent care. She was immediately sent to the Flower Hospital emergency room, and a CAT scan was quickly administered.

It found a 27-pound cyst in her abdominal cavity.
“I’m in good spirits,” Ms. Kopanis tweeted later that day. “I’m about to be much skinnier once this thing is out of me.”
An ultrasound also found sizable blood clots in her leg. By Friday afternoon, Kapnis was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for an emergency surgery. Within 24 hours the mega-cyst was removed, along with the ovary to which it was attached.
“I have been blown away by the love and support,” Ms. Kopanis tweeted after the surgery. “Can’t say thank you enough! Truly you all are so awesome!”
Kopanis had been looking forward to covering the St. John’s Jesuit baseball game on Saturday. She settled for watching it from her hospital bed, laptop in her lap with a side of jello and ice chips.
She was released from the ICU on Monday but will remain hospitalized as she recovers.
